15 Years Later: What Actually Matters Most in Family Photos

Client Sessions

back

Fifteen years.

Sometimes that number feels really big… and sometimes it feels like I blinked and got here overnight.

When I first started this journey, I didn’t fully understand everything I was building. I just knew I had a “why.”
A deep one. A personal one. One that was rooted in honoring London and choosing to see life, love, and connection through a different lens.

Back then, I think I believed I was simply capturing memories.

But fifteen years later, I see it so differently.

Because over time—through my own life, my own motherhood, my own experiences with joy and loss—I’ve realized something that has completely changed the way I photograph families:

Most people don’t realize what they truly want… until they feel it.

They think they want the perfectly posed image.
The smiling-at-the-camera shot.
The one that checks the box.

And yes—we’ll absolutely get that.

But what I’ve seen, over and over again, is that the images they end up loving most…

are the ones they didn’t expect.

The belly laughs.
The wind-blown hair.
The way their child reaches for them without thinking.
The in-between moments that feel a little imperfect… but somehow hold everything.

Because those are the images that don’t just show what life looked like
they remind you what it felt like.

And that has become everything to me.

Fifteen years ago, I was just beginning.
Today, I’m a mom looking back at my own boys and wondering how time moved so quickly.

The little hands I used to hold are now bigger.
The seasons I was in are now memories.

And I understand, in a much deeper way now, what it means to hold onto something you can’t get back.

I’ve also walked through seasons—and stood beside others in theirs—where photos became more than just photos.
They became reminders of love. Of legacy. Of presence. Of people who mattered deeply.

And that changes you.

It softens you.
It refines what you prioritize.
It makes you realize that what we’re preserving isn’t perfection…

…it’s connection.

That’s why my heart behind every session has shifted over the years.

I’m not just here to create something beautiful for your walls.

I’m here to give you permission.

Permission to slow down.
Permission to be present.
Permission to laugh, to hold your babies close, to embrace the chaos and the calm and everything in between.

Because one day… those are the moments you’ll want back.

And here’s what I know for sure now:

The families who are meant for me…
they may come in thinking they want something traditional.

But they leave seeing the value of something deeper.

They become the ones who cherish the real, the raw, the honest.
The ones who understand that the “imperfect” moments are actually the most meaningful ones of all.

That’s who I serve.

And fifteen years in… I’ve never been more sure of that.

So if you’re in a season that feels fleeting…
if your days feel full and fast and a little bit messy…

I see you.

And I would be honored to help you remember what this felt like.

As a family photographer serving Elizabethtown, Kentucky and surrounding areas, it’s a privilege to preserve these moments for families who want to hold onto what matters most.
